Recent Prospects for UFO Hunters
Is the UFO Show Over or Just Beginning?
What I plan to do in this hub is give you all a look at how the UFO picture stacked up since July 2011, all the way up to the middle of April of 2012. The last half of last year was pretty active on the UFO scene, breaking many monthly sighting records at the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC). Then, during the last day of that year plus the first day of this year, skyrocketing daily figures probably raised an eyebrow by NUFORC's director Peter Davenport (as he might have thought to himself "how bizarre").. The whole month of January turned out to be very active as well, however if you looked at just the NUFORC data you would think that it fizzled out after that, but the Mufual UFO Network's (MUFON's) data seems to show that it hadn't yet, especially in Arizona that was a consistently high ranking state, anywhere from 2nd to 4th place among the 50 states plus DC for each period studied; last 1/2 of last year, 12/31/11-1/1/12, and the first 3 months of this year when it steadily increased each month during that last category. [I have since learned that the reason for NUFORC's lack of reports was due to the fact that the 322 reports posted on 4/18/12 represented less than half of the total of those logged online following their 3/16/12 posting with around 400 reports still in need of proof-reading. The remaining reports should be posted soon per NUFORC's director Peter Davenport.]
Again, looking at just the MUFON data from the middle of February to the middle of April, you can see a spike in the last half of March in the data given below (split into groups by distance of UFO to observer):
Date.......501ft-1mile..100-500ft..21-100ft..0-20ft
2/13-2/28...........49...........19...........11.............6
2/29-3/15...........52...........23.............8.............1
3/16-3/31...........59...........33.............9.............2
4/01-4/16...........51...........19.............4.............5
For the last half of March, Wyoming and Montana were in the top two position with Arizona in a solid 3rd place. Tied for fourth with a rating less than half of Arizona were Texas, South Dakota, and Maine with Nevada and Missouri taking the number five spot and followed by Utah, California, Oklahoma, Idaho, Michigan, and Florida.
Just when I was planning a big plug for Arizona as THE place to be in the coming months if you were or aspire to be a UFO hunter, April seemed to show Arizona's rise in activity slowing down noticeably (from 3rd to 6th place). All of a sudden, California began to show more activity on the west coast while, on the east coast, Pennsylvania, usually a below average state (when considering population density) was probably raising a few eyebrows (it becoming a 7th place contender). But after April 16, things may be reverting back to the way they were before April. The leading states in the one week period from 4/17 through 4/23 shows Arizona back in 2nd place (behind Nevada and ahead of Texas, Utah, Oklahoma, and Colorado).
If anyone would like to try and experience a UFO sighting in the near future, I recently refined when all three of my UFO Day Cycles peak in unison (that doesn't happen too often but when it does strange UFO related things tend to happen more often than usual) and wrote about it in my last hub (Key to the UFO Highway). After reviewing UFO activity over decades I concluded that my earlier estimated peak date of 6/17/12 was two weeks behind the actual date of 7/1/12 (both Sundays). If anybody would like to take advantage of my prediction, the best days usually begin a week before the predicted date, on the peak date, and then a week after that (give or take a day in each instance). Since I am not 100% certain about either date, the best bet, if you only have a couple of days to work with, would be midway between the two estimates or Sunday and Monday nights on 6/24 and 6/25/12 (around 9pm to 11pm).
As I already have revealed, based on indications from the bulk of the data investigated, Arizona is the most consistent and most promising prospect. Based on recent information (the past 30 days) California (near Los Banos) and Pennsylvania (near Allentown) are two others. It should be noted that all of the sightings in or near Los Banos, CA, happened on 4/16/12 whereas the ones in or near Allentown, PA were spread among many dates during the first three weeks of April. I've included zoomed in maps of the best prospective areas in those three states for you shown below (one of the two reports in the Allentown area appears to be a duplicate however).
For those who are interested in the spreadsheet data for the main periods explored, one can find them at the end of this article.
